Swedish National Committee for Geophysics

SNG

The Swedish National Committee for Geophysics, SNG, was established by merging together the former Swedish National Committee for Geodesy and Geophysics with the Swedish National Committee for Oceanic Sciences. It rules under the Class for Geosciences (Class V) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. SNG is connected to, and represents Sweden within, the International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics, IUGG, and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research, SCOR.

The Rossby award 2017

The Swedish National Committee for Geophysics has awarded the 2020 Rossby Price to professor Dorthe Dahl-Jensen at the Centre for Ice and Climate, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.

"Dahl-Jensen is awarded the prize for her significant contributions to the ice core drilling programs, especially in Greenland, where she has developed new methods both for flow modelling and for the deciphering and determination of the age of climate signals in an ice sheet. Dorthe Dahl-Jensen has through her leadership developed the international ice core drilling program and she is an outstanding representative for Nordic geophysical research at the highest international level."

The award ceremony is planned for the autumn of 2021, pending the developmen of the covid-19 pandemic.
